Piloda Shipyard: a €140 million project to make Brindisi a Mediterranean hub for naval refit and ship recycling
Brindisi – Piloda Shipyard has presented a major industrial development project aimed at transforming the Port of Brindisi into a Mediterranean center of excellence for ship repair, refit and recycling. The plan involves an investment of €140 million, the development of a 230 x 48-meter dock and new infrastructure capable of supporting vessels up to 250 meters, with the potential to generate up to 600 direct and indirect jobs.
Submitted as part of the initiative promoted by the Italian Ministry of Enterprises and Made in Italy for the redevelopment of the former coal-fired power plant area, the project builds on Piloda Shipyard’s existing operations in Brindisi. With the necessary provisions already included within the new Port Master Plan, the development is expected to be completed within 24 months from the start of construction.
The new facilities will expand Piloda Shipyard’s capabilities across commercial vessels, large yachts and naval units, while creating a dedicated hub for ship recycling. Brindisi’s strategic location, maritime expertise and existing infrastructure will help capture activities currently carried out abroad, strengthening the local supply chain and supporting long-term industrial and employment growth.
